Free Inquiry Update – Mobility Progress

For this update on my free inquiry project, I wanted to reflect on where my mobility progress is currently at and how it has changed over the past little while. One thing I’ve started to notice through this process is that progress in mobility doesn’t always happen evenly. Some movements improve quickly, while others seem to plateau for a while.

One area that has stayed about the same is my L-sit. I can still hold it for around 7 seconds, which is the same as my last update. Even though it hasn’t increased yet, maintaining that position consistently still feels like progress compared to where I started earlier in this project when I couldn’t hold it at all. I think this shows that mobility and strength gains sometimes need time before another jump forward happens.

However, I have noticed improvement in my standing pancake. When I first started working on this movement, it felt very restricted and I struggled to hinge forward while keeping my back relatively straight. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve started to feel more range and control in the position, and I’m able to hinge further forward without losing balance or collapsing into the stretch.

This improvement has been encouraging because my long-term goal is to eventually work toward a seated pancake, and the standing version feels like a good progression toward that. It has also helped me realize that mobility work is often about building both flexibility and strength in those ranges, not just trying to force the position deeper.

One challenge I’ve noticed is that progress can feel slow at times. Some days movements feel looser and easier, while other days I feel tight again. This has made me realize how important consistency and patience are when working on mobility. Even if one movement stalls for a bit, progress can still happen in other areas.

Going forward, I plan to keep working on both positions. My goal is to eventually increase my L-sit hold time again while continuing to develop my pancake flexibility and control. Overall, this inquiry continues to show me how small, gradual improvements can add up over time.
